First Draft Bid Writing for SMEs and Low Value Contracts

Built for SMEs where the maths must stack up

At Bid Writer Consultancy, we focus on SMEs and micro businesses targeting lower value contracts. The questions are long, the margins are tight, and you cannot spend days writing method statements. We have spoken with hundreds of SME teams and the message is consistent: if you can get robust first draft answers for the technical and quality questions to review and tailor yourselves, you save real time without losing quality. That is exactly what this service does.

We combine in house AI, trained on our own approach and content, with professional tender writers who edit and refine every response. You receive a complete first draft plus guidance notes, quickly and at a fixed cost, so the maths works for smaller, price sensitive bids.

Why we built this

Bid Writer Consultancy was set up by Sharon Welch in 2014 to make quality bid support affordable. Over the years we the business developed and started to focus more on bids and tenders for micro small and medium businesses. The business grew and merged allowing us to develop solutions even more aligned to the real challenges of our customers! We saw what smaller suppliers were up against: complex tenders, heavy word counts, and the cost of full outsource. This first draft service is our answer. It levels the field for local and regional competitions while keeping standards high for evaluators.

Real situations this solves

You are a cleaning firm bidding for a small council lot with six quality questions at 1,000 words each. You need the methods drafted fast so you can focus on TUPE detail, rotas and price. Your competitors will also be smaller contractors due to the nature of the opportunity.

You are a domiciliary care provider with a framework return due in a week. You need clear structures for safeguarding, continuity and data, plus notes on where to add CQC and local pathway evidence. You simply need as much as full answer for each tender question as possible – which you know you will then want to review and tailor.

You are a grounds maintenance contractor with a regional maintenance lot. The deadline is tight, as well as the margins on the contract! You need to maximise your ROI.

You have always been on hand to deal with our requests quickly and efficiently. Having a large bank of material to reference is also a huge benefit, it allows us to respond to opportunities extremely quickly.

What you get in your draft

  • Answers for all quality questions shaped around the buyer’s questions, evaluation criteria and specification

  • Clear structure with headings, tables and signposting ready to paste into the portal

  • Alignment for method statements, mobilisation, quality and KPIs, risk and continuity, and social value

  • Notes that show where to add local detail, case studies, policies, CVs, data and screenshots

What this service is not

Not portal management. You download and send the documents.

Not a full outsourced team. We focus on the writing so the price stays low and the speed stays high. We can offer more support via our core bid writing consultancy – but not at this price and speed.

For complex or high value bids you can step up to our fully managed service if needed.

How much is done

For most local and regional tenders the first draft covers around 70 to 85 percent of the writing. For central government competitions, treat this as a fast start at roughly 40 percent and plan time for deeper evidence and approvals.

FAQs

How is this different from hiring a freelancer?
Consistency and value. Freelancers often charge £500+ a day, and an FM tender can take 5 to 10 days. That is £2,500 to £5,000. We deliver up to 8,000 words in 48 hours for £1,500 + VAT.

Will you guarantee a win?
No. Results depend on price, evidence, competition and other factors. We give you a strong base so you can focus on tailoring.

Do you provide guidance on improvements?
Yes. Every draft includes notes on where to add detail and evidence so your answers are stronger.

Can you build us a bid library?
Yes. Same fixed cost and approach. You will get draft answers plus notes on how to tailor them for future tenders.

Do you cover social value tender questions?
Yes. We draft responses aligned to the Social Value Model and show where to add local detail on jobs, carbon, community and supply chain.

Do you support out of hours if needed?
By agreement. Where deadlines demand it, we can plan short bursts of evening or weekend work to keep the 48 hour delivery on track.
